Strange Loves 1: Vampire Boyfriends is a grown-up version of the choose your own adventure books I enjoyed when I was younger. However, this is not just a book, it’s a game book for your iPad or iPhone and this adventure story is a lot sexier than the ones I remember from my childhood. In this story you are a college girl on the first day of her senior year who is immediately offered two main paths to choose. Will you become a theater major with a flair for dramatics, or a master in martial arts? Regardless of which you choose, if you don’t die first, you will eventually discover that there is something special about you and that mysterious star birthmark on the back of your neck.
Vampire Boyfriends has many clichéd elements of your favorite vampire books and movies, and throws two incredibly sexy and mysterious vampires into your path. Lukas is the blonde haired hunky actor type, while Royce is a dark haired charming bartender. The path you originally chose determines whose path you will stumble across. You soon discover that their two families are feuding and it’s up to you to decide who to believe, who to fight for, and even who to love. Do you give in completely to their charms, or stay human and fight beside them?
The story has 40 different endings and multiple paths to follow to get you to those endings. Even after hours of playing I still have yet to sift through all my options. Make sure to take advantage of the book mark feature. Eventually you’ll grow tired of going all the way back to the start, and you’ll just want to go back to that last spot where you made the wrong choice that resulted in your untimely demise. Death will happen a lot, so get used to it and enjoy the unlimited amount of bookmarks this game provides.
Another interesting and amusing feature in this game book are the 17 achievements that you can earn as you follow the story. For example, making certain choices regarding a crying cat will result in the “Cat Lady” achievement. The story line is entertaining and amusing in itself, but having these achievements pop up adds an extra little giggle factor.
I love pretty much everything about this game book. The story is entertaining and engaging. The graphics are a little dark and girly, but perfect for the feel of the story. It’s not a very mature story, and I really believe the references to sex could have been left out as they make absolutely no sense to me. Aside from that, for only $2.99 I would recommend this to anyone, but it’s definitely geared towards women. Unless you’re the type of man who would like to pick up a hunky male vampire and then this is probably for you as well.
Strange Loves 1: Vampire Boyfriends has a Rating of Mature 17+, but I had no qualms about plopping it into the hands of my thirteen year old daughter. The content is far more tame than any PG-13 movie and aside from some very mild references to drinking and non graphic mentions of sex, involving a rather strange vampire style transfer of fluids, there’s really nothing too over the top. In fact, the rating itself may fool people into believing this is a book for older teens and young adults, but based on the depth of the story I would say it is geared more toward the younger teen age range. Of course, with anything that has to do with ratings and your children, check it out first. You know your children better than I do. I myself still have the imagination of a teenage girl and had a lot of fun with this game book.
There are a couple more books in the works that will feature more characters of the supernatural persuasion such as witches and shape shifters. I personally would love a choose your own adventure book featuring Alcide from True Blood. I won’t elaborate on what it would involve, I’ll just let your dirty little minds wander on that one.

Ooh, me, me!!
There are two movies that I just don’t like. I did not like Message in a Bottle, hated the way it ended. And Premonition, I did not like because the story continuity was all out of whack.
Not my kind of game but an entertaining read. Thanks Marcia!
A bit too girlie girl for my style but I do have some in the household that may enjoy this theme. I see you have single space after periods.
Good read I do like how the story has multiple endings which give the program added value. So are there plans about Nascar, football or something I’d like to check out in the near future?
