Capcom has announced a new website, RE.Net, that will be linked to the upcoming release of Resident Evil 6. RE.Net will include comprehensive stat tracking such as enemies killed, weapons used, and medals earned. Not only that, but it will also include a lot of social connectivity too. You can share your status on Twitter or Facebook, find events hosted by other gamers, and partake in what Capcom calls “Champion Belt events.”
Capcom has also announced that with the website, a free smartphone app for iOS, Android, and Windows devices will be released as well. From the information here, it looks like service will be similar to Halo Waypoint, which currently tracks stats for the Halo games.
The final bit proves a bit more interesting. RE.Net will introduce RE.Net points. These points can be used to unlock new costumes for mercenaries or little virtual figures which can be placed in your very own Resident Evil diorama.
The announcement of RE.Net has also given the spoiler that Mercenaries will likely be in RE6 as it is mentioned many times in the press release.
RE.Net will be available when Resident Evil 6 launches on October 2 on the Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3. A PC release is to be announced.
