More than a year after its launch, the characters of Marvel Super Hero Squad Online are finally breaking their silence. No, this isn’t a tale of some henchman exposing a secret global takeover conspiracy by the likes of Doctor Doom or Magneto, or a disgruntled agent at S.H.I.E.L.D. going public about Nick Fury’s constant refusal to provide a safe work environment. Instead, Gazillion Entertainment and Marvel announced on Friday that they have added voiceovers to entire cast of the popular free-to-play MMO.
“The heroes and villains in Marvel Super Hero Squad Online have always had their own unique personalities and attitudes,” said Jay Minn, Vice President and Studio Manager for The Amazing Society (the Gazillion development studio responsible for Marvel Super Hero Squad Online). “But when you give these characters actual voices, they really come to life. There is so much that can be done with dialogue that simply can’t be done with just animation. We’re excited and very proud to let our heroes and villains speak their minds!”
With a current roster of more than 70 heroes and 20 villains in Marvel Super Hero Squad Online, and more to be added regularly, that adds up to a whole lot of dialogue … more than 3000 total spoken lines to date. Naturally some characters will have more to say than others, such as Marvel’s resident chatterbox, Deadpool, has over 100 lines of dialogue all to himself.
Of course, you can’t have just anyone lend their voices to the stable of Marvel mainstays. With that in mind, Gazillion and Marvel enlisted many of the voice actors from the Super Hero Squad TV show. Fans of the show will immediately recognize some of these voices, as the characters in the game will have most of the same actors, including:
- Tom Kenny (Iron Man, Captain America, MODOK)
- Alimi Ballard (Falcon)
- Antony Del Rio (Reptil)
- Charlie Adler (Doctor Doom)
- Dave Boat (Thor, Thing)
- Grey Delisle (Ms. Marvel, Enchantress)
- Mikey Kelley (Silver Surfer)
- Steve Blum (Wolverine, Abomination)
- Tara Strong (Scarlet Witch)
- Travis Willingham (Hulk)
Additional actors include Marvel voiceover veterans Chris Cox, Laura Bailey, and Phil Lamarr.
